President’s message

December 2016

Message of the President

Again a year rapidly comes to an end and I hope it was for you a happy and successful year in your professional environment and in private life.

For the International Association of Environmental Analytical Chemistry (IAEAC) it was a good year with prosperity for the Association. Indeed, the International Symposium for Environmental Analytical Chemistry (ISEAC) with its 39th edition in Hamburg in July was well received by the international scientific community of researchers and control laboratories active in environment and food control analysis as well as by the instrument suppliers. More than 260 scientists took part in the meeting and 15 manufacturers were present in the exhibition and a report on the meeting is on the IAEAC homepage. As the instrumentation is very similar for both fields, it has proven to be the right philosophy to include both the fields of environmental analysis and food control in the ISEAC. This will be continued in the further events planned by the IAEAC. Indeed, the planning for ISEAC 40 in 2018 takes off and we can expect a successful meeting in Santiago de Compostella (Spain) in 2018 under the Chairmanship of Professor José Quintana.

Besides this, meeting preparations for the 5th International Symposium on Environmental Analytical Chemistry (ISEAC 5 – Asia) to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in Mai 2017 are running as do the preparations for the BBMEC 12th Workshop on Biosensor & Bioanalytical Microtechniques in Environmental, Food and Chemical Analysis to be held in Rome in September 2017. The meeting in Vietnam testifies the efforts IAEAC makes for making available the knowledge on environmental analytical chemistry worldwide and to foster networking in this field.

Our international endeavors also are reflected by the activities of RACAL as the Latin-American branch of the IAEAC, who is now preparing the Laseac (Latinamerican Symposium for Environmental Analytical Chemistry), meeting to be held in Manizalles (Columbia) in 2017.

Regular updates on these and other meetings co-organized by IAEAC, such as the Pesticides Symposium, and reports on meetings held recently, as e.g. the TraceSpec meeting held in September 2016 in Gdansk (Poland), do regularly appear on the IAEAC homepage.

As a further activity of IAEAC the International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry under the Editorship of Joan Albaiges is to be mentioned to be very successful and it covers frontier development techniques and applications in the whole field very well.

Let us with these outlooks work further in 2017 for the prosperity of our field of research and bring the outcome of our scientific activities to a so broad as possible community of colleagues. With these wishes I want to connect my personal best wishes for health and prosperity in your professional and private undertakings for all of you.

José A.C. Broekaert
President of IAEAC
